DJ Shadow recently announced a remix competition for his track ‘Scale It Back feat.Little Dragon’ of his latest album ‘The Less You Know The Better’. The competition is for a release along side the man himself on Island Records and here is Si Tew’s take on it. Taking the original vocals of Little Dragon’s Yukimi and chopping up the beats in his usual fashion Si has headed for a lighter night with this remix. Big pianos, lots of percussion of some synths you might recognise from his album this mix is sure to turn some heads. With a little space left for vocals it seemed the only thing to do was get Jack ‘Da Lad’ Gibson in to lay down some of his lyrical wizardry. We hope you like it and please Listen, Vote and Share as there is the opportunity of a release alongside DJ Shadow himself.
The Atjazz Record Company crew hit up ADE 2011 in a big way with multiple shows every day. Si Tew made his first ADE appearance at the Kohesive party hosted by Karizma at Toko MC on Thursday night. Warming up the decks for Kyri (R2), Atjazz and Karizma the place was packed from the get go. On Friday it was an afternoon session at Kaddinskys Coffee shop for the Restless soul party with Phil Asher before heading straight off to Rotterdam for the Boogie Man event featuring Karizma and Atjazz. Saturday was the big one though, with Canvas being the venue for the Elevator passion and Phat Elephant party featuring, Si Tew, Atjazz, Phil Dairmont, Art of Tones and more. With a view out across Amsterdam from the 6th floor it was a great venue and a great crowd. No time to relax and take it all in though…As soon as Atjazz had wrapped up his set it was off to Club Home for Atjazz, DJ Spen and Phil Asher. Another treat of an event! ADE 2011 was a great festival, with great people and great music. Amsterdam…Si Tew and ARCo will see you again next year.

Si Tew - When The Clouds Ran Away

Prepare to be fully blown away by the extraordinary talents of new producer Si-Tew. Stemming from a sleepy abode in middle England, this self-taught bedroom DJ and underground producer uncovers his voracious understanding for electronic music with a rich diverse debut.
Crafted on beautiful cinematic, leftfield sounds with strong piano and string soliloquies and taking influences from hip hop, soul and even contemporary genres like hyperdub and dubstep, each track boasts it’s own unique identity.
‘Hard Look’ is a glitchy android anthem while ‘All You Need’ opening with industrial sounds ventures into a sort of galactic 80’s funk. ‘One Percent’, another highlight, builds a journey from trip-hop claps and looping keys that fans of DJ Shadow will surely magnetise too while ‘Black &White’ adds great depth to the record, hinting at Si-Tew’s strong classical edge.

Vocals on the album come courtesy of a handful of relatively unknown but hugely talented UK artists. Take for example Shanade’s neo-soul harmonies over the mystical xylophone touches and distant downtempo beats of ‘Silhouette’ – truly mesmerising. Jack Da Lad & Dwayne Hayden collaborate on another favourite the super soulful, hip hop number ‘Independent Light’ .
When The Clouds Ran Away illustrates an uncanny level of creative patience. Creating music suitable only for the listener’s imagination Si –Tew challenges your musical boundaries while still making a uniform, sonically beautiful piece of music. And to us at BEATNIK that’s our favourite kind of producer.

Main men Atjazz & Si Tew step up to the production bench where they find the incredible Replife waiting to go on the field! Dirty beats and subtones roll out as Replife’s cutting edge vocals slice through the remaining dust. If you like beats, you’ll love this!

UKYA01 is the first national UK Young Artists event taking place in Derby from Thursday 21 until Sunday 24 October. Following an open call for submissions from artists aged between 18 and 30, 48 artistic individuals/groups (totalling at over 75 individuals) were selected from over 400 applications. Although all have been based in the United Kingdom for at least one year, they come from twelve different countries as well as from all across the UK – from Inverness to Penzance, County Down to East Lothian and Derby itself. They are all cross-art form, including: choreographers, ceramicists, dancers, musicians, video artists, installation artists, painters, performance artists, photographers, sculptors, storytellers, writers and poets.

On Thursday 21 October, 75 individual artists will descend onto Derby for the official launch of UKYA01. Over the course of the event, exhibitions and performances will be taking place in venues across Derby including: the Ark Shop, Bubbles Laundrette, Derby LIVE Assembly Rooms (Darwin Suite), Déda, Derby Theatre Studio, Pickford’s House, QUAD, The Silk Mill, the University of Derby, Cathedral Green and Market Square.

From the 75 artists represented this year, a select number will be chosen to represent the UK next year (2011) at the International Biennale of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean in Morocco. The selection panel will be led by the internationally renowned performance artist Akram Khan and will also be joined by international artist Mariele Neudecker.

A little sun goes a long way in the UK. It’s a rarity that makes us all want to take our clothes off and crack open the bubbly. Well so too does Si Tew and TrueSelf’s Summer Vision feat/ Shanade and Jack Da Lad. This is what happens when a collection of talented and respected underground musicians let the British summertime go to their heads. It’s hot.

Summer Vision is a wonderfully feel-good, sing-along summer tune. It’s an up-tempo, superbly structured ‘pop-not-pop’ wonder, dripping with warm strings, live drums and guitar, and driven by Jack Da Lad’s cocky, tight, über-British delivery.

As if being lost in Jack’s flow and sentiment isn’t enough, Shanade brings a monumental chorus that even the most pop-fatigued heads will find hard to resist humming and nodding along to.

Soon to be heard dropping his own solo album on Atjazz’ (who mastered the release) Atjazz Record Company, Si Tew lets us hear his more mainstream sound, working in partnership with TrueSelf (Jamie Radford). On hearing Jamie’s initial idea for the Summer Vision riff back in 2005, Si finally managed to coax his long-standing friend into the studio to put the track down.

It was a no-brainer for Si to invite friends dating from his school days, Jack and Shanade, to do their stuff on the single. And do their stuff they did. Summer Vision. Sizzling.

The brand new collaboration project from ‘Atjazz & Si Tew’, The first single taken from the forthcoming album is here ‘Common Question?’. This is deep tech acid house and holds no prisoners, sub-tones, punchy kicks, acid switches & glorious chord pads make this a track that touches the many souls on and off the dance-floor.

Remixes are delivered by some very talented and underground producers including ‘Aybee‘ (Deepblak/Prescription) who brings the planets and the stars to earth with this astral excursion, this is for lovers of real deep house, ‘Dairmount & Berardi’ (Room With A View) drop a more solid vibe with a real pickup in the mid section which lets the anticipation explode. Last but not least we give you the newly hatched super producer extraordinaire ‘Christo’ (Room With a View/Atjazz Record Company) who’s remix can be only described as sub-underground deepness, sub-tones, trippy chords & square bass make this a piece of art. Please enjoy this incredible start to 2010.
